movie: A Scanner Darkly

A Scanner Darkly is about an undercover cop (played by Keanu Reeves), who is fighting a war on a new drug called "Substance D". He goes undercover and becomes the friend of 3 drugies (played by *excuse the spelling* Roberth Downy Jr., Woody Harlson, and Wynona Ryder) in an attempt to uncover who is the big distributor of Substance D. Keanu's character also becomes addicted to the new drugs and things go astray.

I have not read the book by Philip K. Dick, so I do not know how the movie compares to the book, but I thought the movie was extremely good. The movie is done in a unique way in that they recorded the movie regularly and then animated the cells. Essentially, the movie looks like some type of real cartoon (it is strange to explain) which is fitting and really adds to the experience of the whole everyone in the movie is on drugs atmosphere.

This movie is straight drama and there are no big explosions or action, so if you expect to see an action flick, do not see this movie. It very heavily relies on story and acting. The movie is also very eye opening in regards to drug use and "unethical/immoral" issues relating to drugs / drug prevention scene. The movie has some nice twists at the end that will make you think and go...ahhh.I highly recommend it! One of the most unique movie experiences I have ever.....experienced.

book: Dune by Frank Herbert

I have been hearing rave reviews about this book and how it is the best sci-fi book and so on and so forth, so I decided to give it a try. Suprisingly I found the book very good. I felt the book was very well written for a "sci-fi" book. The author did a good job of actually creating they world that book took place in, giving the novel an epic feel and ..........."realness". There is some very interesting philosophical points incorporated throughout the book that provides with an intellectual read (I was not expecting this). One thing that bothered me was that I felt the ending was rushed. It would have been fitting for the book to have an aditional 100 or 200 pages because I felt a very large portion of the end story could have been expanded on. Would have been nice to have a more indepth look at the end story. Regardless, the book was very good in my opinion and is worth reading.

I just noticed something. My reviews are very weird to me haha, boarding the random/vauge realm. Interesting..................
