book: Angels and Demons

First of all, I guess I posted the same 3 posts in a row, my internet or the blog website was acting up and that was the result. I'm not sure how to delete the posts haha, I deleted them through posting>edit posts so it only shows one Oldboy post but they still show up on the blog. Whatever.

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, was a pretty entertaining book...I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was not a "good" book (as in it will not be making any "great literary works" lists on amazon) but it was fun. This book is similar to Brown's other work, The Da Vinci Code, and is written in a very similar fashion. I think I enjoyed this book more then the The Da Vinci Code. It is about Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon trying to stop the "Illumanati's" plots to destroy...something. Supposedly the Illumanati has gotten hold of something called antimatter (100% more efficent than nuclear power) and are going to do...something bad haha. The book is VERY fast paced, most of the book you follow Robert while he is trying to solve puzzles in order to stop...destruction from happening. Be warned, if you start reading this book, you might not be able to put it down and finish it in one day...so if you have tests or homework or something important happening be warned.

movie: Oldboy

I have heard about this movie for quite sometime. A lot of people have been telling me that it was really good so I decided to give it a try. First of all this is a Korean movie, and as far as I know this is the only Korean movie I have seen...I also did not know that Koreans had the skill to make one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen.

This movie is incredible, just amazing, I cannot describe how badass it was. The story basically goes like this...there is this man Dae-su who one day is mysteriously abducted and put into a "prison". But it is no regular prison. The "prison" is a normal apartment room that is locked from the outside. He spends 15 years in this "prison" and one day is set free by the same person who abducted him. The movie becomes interesting once he is released because he wants to figure out who and why someone would do this to him.

This movie's ending is incredible and once you figure out why they did this to him it is just out of control. The main actor did an INCREDIBLE job in this movie. The directing was superb as well. There is once scene that is called "one vs many", it has to be one of the collest fighting scenes done in cinema.

Anyway, go check it out, immediately, you will not be disappointed, that is, if you have good taste in movies =)

movie: brokeback mountain

Today I met up with my best friend, Corie, who I have been friends with since the 1st grade. I had not seen him in a while so we decided to go see a movie. His girlfriend want to see Brokeback mountain and I was like "I'm down" so that is what we saw.

I have to say, I was very impressed with the movie. It was VERY well done and probably one of the best movies I have seen in quite some time. The movie is about two men who meet during a summer job and eventually fall in love with each other. When the summer job ends and they go their own ways and eventually get married and have children. After some time apart they meet up again and have get togethers on Brokeback mountain (where they first meet doing their summer job) and of course they cannot see each other often and drama happens and etc etc.

The movie had very impressive cinematography and was well directed. The movie was also very powerful, in the sense that you can tell how much they loved each other, and you could feel the hurt of main characters throughout the movie. This is probably connected to the superb acting performances by...honestly, everyone in the movie.

This movie comes highly recommended.

movie: the hills have eyes / Game: settlers of catan

Today I decided to go see a movie that looked like it might have been scary. Honestely, I am not a big horror movie fan, because frankly I think most horror movies are not good. Not well made, bad screen play, badly directed etc. One horror movie that I thought was really good was the Shinning, but I might be biased since Kubrick is one of my favorite directors. So, back to The Hills Have Eyes. I enjoyed the movie and thought it was entertaining but is really wasn't a good movie.

My only complaint was that it started off a little slow, it did not get really interesting untill about half way through the movie, but after the halfway mark it was quite exciting. Since I not a horror movie buff I do not know if I should recommend it or not...if you have money to spare...why not? I'll leave it up to you =)

On to the game of Settlers of Catan. Been playing this game recently, you can check out this website if you want to play it (it is free) http://www.s3dconnector.net and today I realize how much luck dependent this game is. I would venture to say that 30%-50% of the game is luck. I had the meanest losing streak of Settlers ever today. I lost 8 games in a row ALL do to dice. One game I had control of 9 out of 12 numbers with 1 resource card away from winning and could not get that resources card for the life of me. I could not even trade to the bank for anything. This happend for 5 ROUNDS!!! In the mean time someone else won. All the players commented on the game saying that it was rediculous that I could not win.

Regardless, the game is still fun, I think it is luck factor (like slot machine action in vegas) that keeps the game interesting and keeps you wanting to come back for more. Ahhh I think that is about it for today!

Intro

What's up people! This post will be an intro...as the title states, just a little info about myself. Name is Roberth aka HeaT (as the competative Unreal Tournament 2k4 (UT2k4) and Street Fighter (SF) communities know me as).

I currently graduate from UofA with a Bachelors in Business Administration (business management emphasis) and am currently working for a company called RPimaging.

My major passion/hobby currently is competative gaming. I had played Street Fighter competatively for 4 years but I took a 2 year break from Street Fighter and am picking it up again. The other game I play competatively is Unreal Tournament 2k4, but I am new to the competative FPS genre, only been playing for 10-11 months.

Other hobbies I have is working out. Been working out hardcore for 4 years now, 4-5 days a week. I have also been reading more than usual recently and I am actually enjoying it.

I am also in the process of applying to UofA's MBA (masters in business administration) program. This involves studying (if you want to call it that, I just take practice tests once in a while from a GMAT practice book) for the GMAT test and writing 3 essays, which I will beging writing tomorrow. Hopefully I should have everything turned in by April 1st and await to hear if I am accepted or not.

The purpose of this blog, or rather what you will see/read if you are indeed following this blog will be random thoughts/ideas that I have, things happening in my life, reviews on movies games books I read, and anything else that pops up in my mind.
